H.E.A.T. 2027 Annual Conference

Humanities, Ethics, and Anesthesia Technical Skills — a one-day educational conference creating exposure, collaboration, mentorship, research, and professional identity formation opportunities for pre-medical and medical students interested in medicine and anesthesiology.

Mission

Immersive anesthesiology exposure through ethics, skills, mentorship, and research.

H.E.A.T. addresses ethical and technical issues identified in anesthesiology through immersive skills sessions and expert-led conference programming. Featured Experiences

Built for pre-medical and medical students.

The 2027 conference builds on the 2026 foundation of humanities and ethics programming, technical skills workshops, and mentorship while expanding networking, research, pre-medical opportunities, and anesthesia-specific programming.

All attendees

Humanities & Ethics Panel

Panel-style conversation with attendings, residents, and a humanities moderator focused on professional identity formation in real clinical practice. Themes include moral agency in the OR, speaking up in hierarchical spaces, professional detachment versus humanism, accountability after mistakes, and how trainees grow through ethically challenging moments.

Pre-medical and medical students

Technical Skills Workshops

Hands-on anesthesia-related stations led by physicians and upper-level medical students. Prior workshop content included airway anatomy, intubation techniques, CPR and BLS, Stop the Bleed, tourniquet use, and basic procedural skills that introduce learners to the technical side of anesthesiology.

Pre-medical students

Pre-Medical Student Pathways

Dedicated opportunities for students exploring medicine and anesthesiology, including shadowing pathways, mentorship connections, networking with medical students and physicians, and guidance on finding anesthesia-related research and clinical exposure.

Medical students

Medical Student Career Development

Programming designed for students considering anesthesiology, including anesthesia-specific procedural skills, mentorship, networking, and the chance to connect with residents, interns, faculty, and residency program leadership.

Pre-medical and medical students

Networking Lunch

A structured lunch designed to help attendees meet peers, mentors, trainees, and faculty while discussing professional identity, rotations, research, residency preparation, and career paths in anesthesiology.

Medical students
